Description
A world-renowned British artist named Antony Gormley created a display of 51 steel statues. To create "Inside Australia", he travelled to the tiny hamlet of Menzies and persuaded 51 locals (and a few drop-ins) to strip naked. He then digitally scanned their bodies, made life-size moulds and then cast them in stainless-steel alloy. The sculptures travelled 780km from the foundry in Perth to the site on Lake Ballard, near Menzies, and it took a team of 18 volunteers, 4 days to install all 51 sculptures. These statues are scattered across 7 square kilometres and about 750 metres apart on the vast, flat white salt lake. From a distance, these sculptures appear ghostly and almost like a mirage on the horizon, but as you approach, they come to life and stand tall like a human being. When we visited Lake Ballard it was a very muddy and boggy so we didn't venture across the lake. (another trip one day) The sculptures change through out the day with the weather, light or water on the lake. I have treated the original image with a light overlay.
